Dept. of Zoology

Zoology is introduced as a subject for undergraduate students with the onset of the Department of Zoology on July 22nd 1996. It mainly encompasses the scientific knowledge of animals. The Department introduces the students with the biological aspects of both living and extinct animals. The Department mainly emphasizes to develop adequate knowledge of biodiversity study and ecosystem. It assists to expose the students with the scientific methods for testing and classification of animals based on characteristic anatomy. It opens the door for the need to study genetic evolution and the parameters to sustain the natural environment. The balance of the programme is managed through theoretical and practical sessions providing the hands on experience for the students. The Department is enabling the students towards specialization course in Zoology. The Department consists of three faculties having completed their Ph.D. in Physiology, Biotoxinology, Marine Biotechnology, Toxicology, Crustacean, Fishery, Parasitology etc. Specimens belonging to non-chordates, chordates, pathology, fishery etc. are displayed as per their classification to enrich the laboratory. It is also provided with skeleton of various animals including human. Stages of life cycle of animals are also available in form of resources, models. The department is also having the permanent slides of embryology, cytology, various parasites etc. Preservation of animals adds the glory of Zoological department.

The Department also runs departmental library supported with various reference, research journals and text books etc, for the students and staff. The faculty of the department is always keen to provide consultancies for vermiculture, sericulture, apiculture; fishery etc. The department also conducts various activities like blood donation, haemoglobin check up to nurture the importance of health among the students. The faculties have successfully completed 04 MRPs with the financial assistance by Dr. B.A.M.U. Aurangabad. The faculty has published two books. The department foster the faculty for research activity and participation and publication of research paprs in International/ National / State level conferences, seminars, workshops, symposia etc. The department is working with maximum efficiency by bridging the gap with various firms through MOUs. Department has established zoological students association under the title ‘Penguin Association’. The faculty uses ICT for effective teaching.

To foster a deep understanding of animal life through innovative research and education, contributing to conservation and sustainable development.

  • To provide a stimulating learning environment that nurtures curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry in the study of animals.
  • To conduct research that advances knowledge in zoology and contributes to the conservation and management of animal species.
  • To produce skilled professionals who can contribute to society through careers in academia, research, conservation, and other relevant fields.
  • To instill the respect for animals and preserve the ecology.

  • Comprehensive Curriculum: A thorough curriculum covering different facets of animal biology, such as animal anatomy, physiology, behaviour, ecology, evolution, and conservation, is often offered by zoology department. Specialised course in subject like entomology is included in the curriculum.
  • Research Opportunities: Department of zoology provides students the chance to do scientific research. These can include everything from helping faculty members with their research initiatives to carrying out individual research while receiving mentorship. Through these research opportunities, students may hone their critical thinking abilities, obtain useful laboratory and fieldwork experience, and enhance zoology-related scientific knowledge.
  • Hands-on Fieldwork: An essential component of zoology education is fieldwork. The chance for students to view and study animals in their natural habitats is frequently provided by department through field excursions and field courses. Students learn about animal behaviour and ecology, improve field research skills, and build a greater respect for nature thanks to this practical experience.
  • Museum and Collection Access: Museum or collections of preserved specimens, like as skeletons, taxidermy mounts, and specimens in jars, are maintained by zoology department. These collections are useful tools for both study and teaching. These collections are frequently accessible to undergraduate students, giving them the chance to study and closely inspect a variety of animal species.
  • Collaboration with Conservation Organizations: To support efforts to conserve wildlife, zoology department frequently work with agencies and organisations dedicated to conservation. These partnerships might entail conducting studies on threatened or endangered species, taking part in conservation efforts, and contributing knowledge to conservation practises and policies.
  • Experiential Learning: Zoology Department collaborate with governmental organisations to provide students with experiential learning opportunities. Students get practical knowledge and exposure to professions in animal-related sectors thanks to these hands-on learning opportunities.
  • Faculty Expertise: The faculty in zoology departments is often diversified and knowledgeable in a range of zoological specialties. This gives students the chance to connect and learn from academics that are actively involved in research and are experts in their fields of specialisation.
  • Community Engagement: Department of zoology place a strong emphasis on community involvement. To enhance scientific literacy, develop public knowledge about animal conservation, and connect with local people to build a greater understanding of the value of biodiversity, they could plan public lectures, seminars, and events like blood group detection and HB count of students.
  • Personal Counselling and Mentoring: Zoology Department aims to support students' academic success, personal development, and career planning.
