The department of geography was established in 1998. At the initial stage the department was, two lecturers. The department functions under the faculty of Humanities. The department teaches students for the Bachler and Master degree in Geography from social science stream. Currently the department offers B. A. (From 1998) M.A. (from 2018) and Ph.D. (from 2021) in Geography as regular academic programme of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad.
Contemporary focus areas for research in the department includes fluvial geomorphology and watershed development, oceanography and coastal geomorphology, biogeography, geography of population and settlement, geography of tourism and culture, agricultural geography, geo-hazards assessment, monitoring and management, resource appraisal using remote sensing and GIS, regional planning and development.

Academic Syllabus Offered for M.A. Geography as per the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. Revised Choice Based Credit & Grading System with (CBC & GS) Semester pattern is effective from June 2021-2022. The duration of the programme is two years and the courses are carefully designed to attain both scientific and technical aspects that enable them to grow into competent, seasoned professionals.
Course curriculum is designed both at basic and advanced levels. There are 6 +1 core theory papers, 4 Elective paper, 8 Specialized theory Group “G” & “P” papers, 3 Core Practical, 01 Research Project and 01 Service course, spread across 4 semesters. Students in fourth semester are given opportunity to undertake research-oriented project in their concerned field of specialization or interest. Apart from these core and practical courses, students are also required to take up electives. This programme provides elective subjects which are relevant with updated and new areas in various branches of Geography to meet the needs of all students.
